Victorian Staffordshire pottery figure representing The Siamese Twins
Featured and pictured in P D Gordon Pugh's book Staffordshire Portrait Figures on page 617, plate 23, Figure 58. Marked as Rare.

This represented Chang and Eng Bunker (1811-1874) who were born conjoined in Siam. They remained conjoined throughout their lives. Despite that they married twin girls spending three nights in one home and three nights in the other. Between them they fathered 19 children!
They were befriended by A Scottish merchant Mr Robert Hunter, who made them famous appearing in shows in America and later in Barnham's Circus in Sadler's Wells in 1831. This figure group portrays the twins whilst on show at the circus, with Robert Hunter in Scottish Garb.
Beautifully hand painted and detailed

Condition wise it has virtually no damage, except for some crazing and some paint loss.
This dates to the time when they were appearing circa 1830. Rare and in great antique condition.
