Antique Bronze Oil/tallow Lamp 18th century

Fascinating little lamp or torch made of thick bronze, it features a reservoir which would have contained oil or probably tallow with a protruding spout which would have held the wick. The lift turns to loosely lock it in position, thick and heavy
Impossible to date accurately but it has to date before other more efficient alternatives were made, like candles?
Well and beautifully patinated, cold to the touch and bright colour when discretely scratched

2.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches long, weighs 280 grams
