Royal Doulton, Bacchus motto wine jug circa 1910
Royal Doulton, Bacchus motto wine jug that reads "Good is not good enough. The best is not too good."
It is a rich dark brown colour with raised fruit and cherubs. It has impressed marks for Royal Doulton which date it between 1903 and 1920.
Bacchus was the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility, equivalent to the Greek god Dionysus. Dionysius was said to be the last god to join the twelve Olympians. Supposedly, Hestia gave up her seat for him. His plants were vines and twirling ivy.
The legend around it says " Good is not good enough, The best is not too good"
It is large 8.25 inches tall and is in perfect condition suitable for it's original purpose.
