Royal Doulton Character Jug "Auld Mac"
Based on a cartoon character by Charles Keene featured in Punch magazine in 1868.
This is the earlier issue D5823 released in 1940 and withdrawn 1980's.
It stands 6.5 inches tall and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Across the back it reads "Bang went Saxpence" this is from the cartoon in Punch in which he is back so soon from a trip to London and he replied " Mun, a had na' been the-erre abune twa hoours when - bang - went saxpence!!!"
