Staffordshire flatback spill vase
Staffordshire flatback spill vase
Victorian Staffordshire pottery flatback figure group spill vase
These were made to sit on a mantle shelf with there back to the wall. The front is all hand painted, but they did not bother with the back as no one would ever look at it.
Spills were tapers used to light candles, cigarettes etc. A stock of them were always kept handy.
This is 6.55 inches tall.
Condition wise it has minimal paint loss and just one old chip please see photos
It does have rubbing to the base commensurate with age which is circa 1850's
Bizarrely it contains a glass stopper which is too large to get in or out, but it is there!
