Victorian Fairing "Now Ma-am, Say When?"
Victorian Fairing
Fairings were little momentos that the Victorians would buy or win when visiting Fairs.
Made throughout the second half of the 19th century, they were hand made and all hand painted in Germany, but were a very British tradition.
This one is entitled Now Ma-am, Say When? and represents two people who seem to be staff helping a lady get into a carriage. They were well made with lovely detail
Collectors grade the rarity of fairings, this one is grade C
Lovely little genuine antique fairing. There are many reproduction fairings out there especially at the cheaper end of the market. One way to spot a reproduction is to look at the detail, reproductions are poorly detailed. Also they are made differently, if there are two holes in the base it is a reproduction.
